'Bates Motel' premiere ratings hit scripted highs for A&E

The series premiere of "Bates Motel" got off to a solid start last night on A&E, with 4.6 million total viewers over multiple airings including 2.5 million adults 25-54 and 2.4 million adults 18-49.The official 10 p.m. premiere airing drew 3 million total viewers and 1.6 million adults 18-49 and 25-54. That makes "Bates Motel" A&E's most-watched original drama series debut in the network's key 18-49 and 25-54 demos.While the premiere's total viewers are lower than the network's scripted success "Longmire" -- which routinely drew around 4 million viewers throughout its first season -- "Bates" had a stronger performance in the key demos. A&E will give "Bates" an additional boost this week by airing an encore of the premiere after new episodes of breakout reality hit "Duck Dynasty.""'Bates Motel' represents the very best of quality storytelling with an incredible cast led by Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore," A&E president Bob DeBitetto said in a statement....
